Welcome to zs6p.com
My name is Tjerk Lammers and I was born in Drachten in 1939 just before the outbreak of WW2. Drachten is a town in Friesland, the most northern province of the Netherlands. After surviving the war on a meager diet of dry bread and an occasional rat, I was sent by the Red Cross to Denmark. There I stayed on a dairy farm for about a year to regain my health. Shortly after my return to Friesland, our family emigrated to South Africa where we settled in Pretoria, the capital city.
I completed my secondary schooling at Afrikaans Seuns Hoër Skool in 1957. I then studied towards a degree in mechanical engineering at Pretoria University for two years but never completed my studies. However, the knowledge gained has stood me well in both my professional life and hobby. Thereafter I joined my father at Lammers Garage.
I married my wife Sylvia, born Havenga, in 1964. Three children were born, our son Klaas, and daughters Rozanne and Marjonne who passed away at the age of seven.
Klaas, Rozanne and her children live in Cape Town with Marius, Klaas’ son, who lives in Hong Kong and flies for Cathy Pacific.
In December 2017 I moved to Cape Town.
The contents of my website are spread over many pages. You can trace the family history, look at family photos both present and of days gone by, and get acquainted with my hobby Amateur Radio and why it affords me much pleasure.
